The Arab World seems to be on Israel’s side this time
It seems to be a recurring theme that Israel be surrounded on all sides by hostile Arab nations. However, it seems like this time the Arab world will be aligning WITH Israel, as a new coalition of Arab states – which includes Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates – led by Egypt will be taking Israel’s side in its fight against Hamas.
Following the military ousting of the Islamist government that controlled Egypt last year, the country’s new government and its Arab allies have been fighting to prevent political Islam from spreading across the Middle East. It’s for this reason that these nations, who by all accounts despise Israel, have still decided to align with the Jewish nation against Hamas, the Islamist movement the currently controls the Gaza Strip.
“The Arab states’ loathing and fear of political Islam is so strong that it outweighs their allergy to Benjamin Netanyahu,” the prime minister of Israel, said Aaron David Miller, a scholar at the Wilson Center in Washington and a former Middle East negotiator under several presidents. “I have never seen a situation like it, where you have so many Arab states acquiescing in the death and destruction in Gaza and the pummeling of Hamas. The silence is deafening.”
