Solar Impulse 2

Much of the world is focused on the environmental impact of cars, but the carbon footprint of planes is much bigger per flight. If there’s a way to make planes green, then the environment can be helped just as much as hybrid and electric vehicles on the road.

Those days may not be too far off as the solar powered plane, Solar Impulse-2, has taken off on its 5-month journey around the world.

As the BBC puts it:

So, too, will the performance of the 17,000 solar cells that line the top of the wings, and the energy-dense lithium-ion batteries it will use to sustain night-time flying.
