Sudan President on ISIS and Boko Haram: ‘CIA and the Mossad stand behind these organizations’
It’s an attack on the US and Israel, an insult to the Muslims fighting for their groups, and great fuel for conspiracy theorists around the world. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir claimed in an interview that America’s CIA and Israel’s Mossad are behind ISIS and Boko Haram.
What makes his statements so ironic is that the 71-year-old former brigadier in the Sudanese army is considered one of the most corrupt leaders in the world. He has “won” three elections since coming into power in 1989 when he ousted the government. He is also the only sitting president to be indicted by the International Criminal Court for leading a bloody campaign of murder, rape, and pillaging against the people of Darfur.
During an interview with EuroNews, al-Bashir said: “I said CIA and the Mossad stand behind these organizations; there is no Muslim who would carry out such acts.”
He’s not the only Muslim leader to make this sort of accusation. Yesterday, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallahm the leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, claimed pretty much the same thing.
There is no evidence that this is the case, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility. From a speculative perspective, the waning support for the war on terror means that black flag attacks are always a consideration. This would mean that the tension between Israeli leaders and US President Barack Obama is either all for show or that the politics in the White House do not translate to hindering cooperation between the two most sophisticated intelligence agencies in the world.
As much as we like a good conspiracy theory, it’s still very unlikely. Given the source, this would appear to be another deflection maneuver to cast more hate from the international Muslim community onto the US and Israel.
