The Truth is Out There. Lots of It. BeforeItsNews.com Hits 5-Million Story Mark.
If you believe Paul McCartney was replaced by a lookalike after dying in 1966, that aliens implanted a microchip in Napoleon’s skull, or that the Bush clan is part of the Illuminati, then you’ll want to be one of the multitudes that visit Before It’s News every day.
The alternative news site, which relies on citizen journalists to fill its pages, has just passed the 5,000,000 story mark. It’s format is a combination of social news voting within categories similar to Reddit while maintaining control over what is seen on the front page through editorial vetting and curating.
While most of the stories, particularly those in less frequented categories, can get very little exposure, the most popular stories can get tens, even hundreds of thousands of views. It has over 100 categories ranging from very general topics like Health or Christian News down to more specific ones like Police State and Conspiracy Theories (or favorite, of course).
Users are able to submit stories manually or set up feeds from their own sites that fit squarely within a specific category. Despite the plethora of stories that get submitted, it’s within the comments that most of the action occurs. Many users spend a great deal of time supporting or debunking the stories that hit the front page of the site; few sites elicit as much passion for the truth. This runs contrary to popular perceptions that the site is loaded with false information. Yes, much of it is speculative and users often draw conclusions based upon inaccurate data, but that’s the point. The site is supposed to bring to light things before they’re news that’s hitting the mainstream media. Staying on the cutting edge means sniffing in the wrong direction from time to time.
If you have an itch for alternative news, few sites can compete.
